Through this agreement, the two organizations will establish a cooperative framework encompassing technical consulting, process assessment, and certification services in the fields of ISO 26262 — the international standard for automotive functional safety — and Automotive SPICE (A-SPICE), the process assessment model for automotive software development. Based on this collaboration, they plan to support domestic automotive component manufacturers and automotive fabless companies in building quality systems that meet international standards and strengthening their credibility and competitiveness in the global market.

As the automotive industry rapidly advances in electrification, autonomous driving, and automotive semiconductors, functional safety and software process capability have become key competitive factors. In particular, ISO 26262 and A-SPICE are widely recognized as essential requirements for collaboration with global OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers.

ISO 26262 is an international standard established to systematically analyze and manage risks arising from potential failures of electrical and electronic (E/E) systems installed in vehicles. A-SPICE, based on ISO/IEC 15504, is an internationally recognized process model used to assess and improve the quality level of automotive embedded software development processes, and is widely adopted by global OEMs and suppliers.

Leveraging its global network and independent assessment and certification expertise in ISO 26262 and A-SPICE, TÜV SÜD Korea supports domestic companies in establishing systems that comply with international standards.

How Engineering Works is a specialized engineering company providing production-level functional safety and engineering services across the automotive, semiconductor, and industrial systems sectors. The company has carried out various projects for domestic automotive component manufacturers, construction equipment manufacturers, and automotive fabless companies.

Through this partnership, the two organizations plan to establish an integrated support system covering technical advisory services, process improvement, assessment, and certification, thereby enhancing competitiveness in collaboration with global OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, and semiconductor customers. They also intend to expand the scope of cooperation to include automotive semiconductors, SoCs, ADAS, electrification, and autonomous driving systems.

Song Sung-han, Executive Vice President of the Mobility Division at TÜV SÜD Korea, stated, “With the software-driven transformation of the automotive industry, functional safety and process capability have become critical elements determining a company’s global competitiveness. Through this agreement, we will actively support domestic companies in securing quality competitiveness based on international standards and growing into trusted partners in the global market.”
